(CNN)Authorities are reporting at least one death and more than 100 injuries after a New Jersey Transit commuter train crashed into the Hoboken platform during morning rush hour. Rescuers are scrambling to remove people from the trains.

There was major damage to the train and terminal, and it appears from photos posted to social media that part of the structure’s roof may have collapsed.
Major delays can be expected as the terminal is a major transit hub across the river from Manhattan.

After Taiwan suffered a direct blow from Typhoon Megi, which has killed at least five people and injured hundreds, China’s Fujian province was swamped by heavy rains that left widespread flooding.

The storm was also responsible for several collapsed structures in the Chinese town of Quanzhou, where one person was killed, the China News Service said. Megi prompted school closures and dozens of flight cancellations in Quanzhou Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.

 

Of the four confirmed deaths in Taiwan, three were from falls and one was blamed on a truck crash, Taiwan Central Emergency Operations Center spokesman Lee Wei-sen told the AP.

More than 600 people were injured – many of which were caused by flying debris – during the storm, the AP reported. Among those hurt were eight Japanese tourists who were inside a bus that overturned, the report added. One of those tourists remains in critical condition, according to the Straits Times.

In the wake of the typhoon, more than 2.9 million Taiwanese homes and businesses lost power, the AP also said. At least one million of those customers remained without power Wednesday, the Straits Times said.

Typhoon Megi injures more than 250 in Taiwan before making landfall in China

Strong Typhoon Megi will continue to blast southeastern China with hazardous flooding as the latest tropical system to spin through the region after slamming Taiwan.
“The most likely area to experience significant impacts will be into southeastern China,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Adam Douty said.
Megi made landfall in central Fujian, near the city of Putian, early Wednesday morning local time.

Impacts in China began on Tuesday afternoon, with the worst conditions expected on Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Douty said he is concerned for impacts across eastern Guangdong and Fujian. Winds have already gusted over 90 km/h (56 mph) in Fuzhou, the capital of Fujian province.
The mountainous terrain of Taiwan caused Megi to weaken before entering the South China Sea, but the tropical cyclone remained a strong typhoon when it made landfall in China.

Four people were killed and more than 250 people were injured as a result of the typhoon across Taiwan, local media reported.
A large number of injures resulted from people falling and being hit by wind-blown objects, according to the Associated Press.
Several people were hurt after a tour bus overturned.
Nearly 3 million people were without power on Tuesday night local time as Megi lashed Taiwan.
