OTTAWA — Gunmen opened fire in a mosque in the city of Quebec on Sunday night, killing six people and wounding eight others in what Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called a “terrorist attack on Muslims.”

Étienne Doyon, a spokesman for the Quebec police, told reporters at the scene that the attack on the mosque, the Islamic Cultural Center of Quebec, had occurred around 8 p.m. At a news conference early Monday the police confirmed the six fatalities and said that two suspects had been arrested.

The attack shook Canada, a country where mass shootings are uncommon,                               and came as the country has become known as a beacon for refugees fleeing warfare and terrorism in Muslim-majority nations.

Mr. Trudeau assailed what he called “this terrorist attack on Muslims in a center of worship and refuge.”

The police had not yet identified a motive in the shootings, saying the investigation was just beginning. Ms. Colombe said that one of the two suspects was arrested at the scene of the shooting, while another was apprehended nearby in d’Orleans

 

Two students including one of ‘Moroccan origin‘ have been arrested for the slaughter of six people at a Quebec mosque which came a day after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned Donald Trump’s Muslim travel ban.
Alexandre Bissonnette and Mohamed Khadir were named by local media as having been arrested shortly after the attack at Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center at around 8pm on Sunday night.
The gunmen opened fire on worshipers as they prayed, shouting ‘Alluhu akbar‘ as they sprayed the room of men with bullets.

Pipeline leaks 138,600 gallons of diesel in northern Iowa

An investigation is ongoing on how a pipeline leaked 138,600 gallons of diesel fuel in Worth County early Wednesday morning, according to Magellan Midstream Partners L.P., the pipeline company.

The 3,300 barrels of diesel leaked out of Magellan’s 12-inch pipeline system near Hanlontown around 390th Street and Wheelerwood Road, said Bruce Heine,                   spokesman for Magellan. A portion of Wheelerwood Road will be closed for two days, according to the Worth County Sheriff’s Office.

An Israeli bus plunged 70 meters (230 feet) down a ravine in stormy weather in the northern West Bank in the early hours of Friday morning, injuring at least 20 people, many of them seriously, rescue workers said.

The bus was traveling on Route 60 near the settlement of Ma’ale Halevona when it went off the road at about 1:00 AM, the Magen David Adom rescue service said.

An earthquake that jolted the Greek island of Crete was felt in Israel on Wednesday, with no reports of injuries or damage.

The Athens Geodynamic Institute said the undersea quake, 5.4 on the Richter scale, occurred at 8:50 p.m. (1850 GMT) Wednesday east of Crete, 35 kilometers (22 miles) from the island town of Sitia.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was higher in midday trading after hitting 20,000 for the first time on Wednesday as strong earnings and President Donald Trump’s pro-growth initiatives reignited a post-election rally.

FrontRunner train collides with semi hauling two trailers in Woods Cross

WOODS CROSS, Utah – A Utah Transit Authority FrontRunner train collided with a semi-trailer in Woods Cross Saturday morning, and fortunately no one was injured.

The South Davis Metro fire department said the crash took place at 1100 North and 2600 South, and they asked motorists to avoid the area as crews responded.

A semi hauling two FedEx trailers was trying to cross the tracks, and while the cab made it across, the trailers did not. Some passengers said they were told the truck had gotten stuck on the tracks, but the cause of the crash has not been officially determined.

GEORGIA (WRDW/WAGT) — Governor Nathan Deal has issued a state of emergency for seven counties in South Central Georgia.

The counties under the state of emergency include Atkinson, Berrien, Brooks, Colquitt, Cook, Lowndes, and Thomas. These counties were impacted by severe weather and tornado touchdowns.

The state of emergency is now in effect and will be for the next seven days.
