Why strong winds, heavy rain may pummel New York on Sandy anniversary

(CNN)Sunday marks the five-year anniversary of when Superstorm Sandy hit New Jersey and New York. This Sunday night into Monday morning, some forecast models show, another big storm will lash the Northeast.

This forecast banks off a tropical wave down in Central America, a low-pressure system swinging a cold front across the eastern US and a large dip in the jet stream — which is due to former Typhoon Lan now off the coast of Alaska — all merging at the same time near the Northeast coast. The magnitude of impacts depends on whether the weather all lines up.

If these systems do all merge (and it’s a big if), you may hear people begin to reference the “perfect storm” — a term used by meteorologists when everything in the atmosphere comes together just right for a storm to have dangerous conditions.

Tropical storm-force winds, coastal erosion and flooding rains could then be possible from the mid-Atlantic through New England. One thing is for certain; this storm system is not forecast to be as strong as Sandy.

A building belonging to ADO Corp., the distributor of drapery fabrics and window coverings products, was badly damaged by the storm. ADO is owned by ADO International in Germany. Polysols, that also occupies the building, also suffered damage to the building and materials.

19 Behold, a ( טוֹרנָאדוֹ tornado whirlwind ) of (השם Hashem The Lord) is gone forth in fury, even a grievous ( טוֹרנָאדוֹ tornado whirlwind ): it shall fall grievously upon the head of the wicked.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Severe weather brought heavy rain, tornadoes, damaging winds,  and flash flooding to the Carolinas Monday afternoon and evening.

An apparent tornado caused widespread damage in Spartanburg County, S.C.,           according to NBC affiliate WYFF. National Weather Service meteorologists will need to confirm a tornado touched down during the round of storms.

The Hickory airport suffered significant damage from an apparent tornado, as well.      Cars were flipped and several small airplanes were toppled over into a huge pile of debris.

 

As a result of storm damage across western North Carolina, several school districts are closed or operating on a delay Tuesday. Closed school districts include Cleveland County and Alexander County. Schools in Caldwell County, Hickory, Mitchell County, and Watauga County are scheduled to operate on a two-hour delay due to storm damage and flooding.
